Talk money week: money jargon to get kids started

While mainstream education is vitally important for the academic, social, and emotional development of children of all ages, it could be argued that it doesn’t teach kids about money to the extent that it possibly should. The need to recognise the importance of financial literacy is imperative in the 21st century. As well as this, understanding ‘money’ and all the jargon that might be associated with the topic, is a skill that all children should be equipped with as they grow up in today’s society.

Talk Money Week is an annual campaign that encourages everyone in the UK to start a conversation about money, from pocket money to pensions. It is not only a chance to share ideas and celebrate the hard work people put into achieving financial stability, but to learn, at any age!

There is always something new to learn about money. And the earlier kids can start to understand the significance of concepts such as ‘direct debits’, ‘loans’, ‘interest’ and other common phrases and jargon, the easier they will find such processes later in life.

As a part of Talk Money Week, the in-home and online tutoring company, Tutor Doctor, has created a ‘money toolkit’ to help get children thinking about the significance of finances and the role money plays in their lives. Money is a valuable life lesson and if children are taught good money habits at an early age, they are likely stay with them. From definitions to common phrases, this toolkit is a great place for kids to start as they begin to save, spend, and enjoy what money can do for them!
