East London store sources ceramic product range made in Essex

A local shop which celebrates independent artists, makers and designers has announced the launch of a fresh line-up of ceramics and soaps as the store celebrates its first birthday.

Artist Tiff Howick, who is from east London, and co-director Lucie Beeston, who’s a jeweller, opened the site at Francis Road, Leyton, in October 2017 under the name Venner, from the Norwegian for ‘friends’.

Now the pair have unveiled their latest products, aimed at art lovers and anyone who likes to buy local goods.

Discussing the range, Howick said: “We’re both really excited about the product launch. Senay ceramics are made near the shop, and are part of Turning Earth, a local ceramics studio.”

Venner has been using ZED, a zero-emissions delivery service, to collect from its suppliers from within Waltham Forest, including Senay. It’s funded by the Mayor of London, and is also approaching its first anniversary.

Howick adds: “Our other new products come from Beci Callow Ceramics, and these are made in Essex.”

Venner has also worked with a local soap maker to produce its own range of soaps in two fragrances, called Sol and Sjø. Sol is Norwegian for 'sun', and has a warm, summery scent, while Sjø, Norwegian for 'sea', has a fresh, sea-breeze fragrance. Both products come wrapped in paper so are free from plastic.
