Local store and gallery looks back on Organic September

When most people think of ‘going organic’, they think about food. And indeed the Soil Association’s Organic September did focus on produce ‘from farm to fork’.

But there are other ways of ‘going organic’, and now Venner Store, a small business in Leyton, is looking back on the month and issuing a reminder that the benefits of a wide variety of organic produce can be enjoyed all year round, and not just during a single month.

Artist Tiff Howick, who’s from the area, and her business partner Lucie Beeston, a jeweller, opened the site on Leyton’s Francis Road around a year ago.

Howick said: “We’re all about local, ethically sourced products and going organic doesn’t just have to be about the things you eat. Buying sustainable products from businesses who care about their supply chain is another way of shopping responsibly."

Venner’s offering includes its 100% organic Nathalie Bond skincare range, which has recently been certified as such by the Soil Association. Items include peppermint and eucalyptus and orange and cedarwood scrubs, plus an extra-sensitive skin balm, sold on site.

Meanwhile other products include those using some organic ingredients, but which are not fully organic, such as the Evermore Candles collection. These candles are made locally using certified organic coconut wax and natural essential oils.

Howick adds: “The Evermore workshop is five minutes’ walk from us!”

Venner also stocks Bloomtown lip balm, made with organic butters, alongside the brand’s body wash, which incorporates organic liquid soap.
