Visiting Angels MD named in prestigious awards for inspired ‘carer-centric’ approach

SME News Magazine has announced the winners of this year’s Managing Director of the Year Awards. Included in the list is none other than Managing Director of the in-home care franchise, Dan Archer, who has also been given the prestigious title of 2023’s Most Visionary Social Care Advocate & Home Care Provider.

Recognised by SME News for the courage, initiative and strategy that he has displayed since launching Visiting Angels in 2018, Dan has been instrumental in raising the standards of in-home care in the UK for six years. Dan has been commended for his inspired approach towards making Visiting Angels the UK’s first and only carer-centric care provider, which sees carers placed at the heart of franchise operations by offering better pay and benefits, training, career progression and mental health support. Now, with an affirmed mission, the ambitious MD aims to push the brand to further success, hoping to not only become the UK’s leading in-home care provider, but to lead the way in reforming the industry as a whole.

“I’m incredibly proud to be recognised in this year’s SME News Magazine’s MD of the Year Awards,” said Dan. “We’ve had an incredible 12 months at Visiting Angels, from celebrating various industry successes to growing our franchise community as more entrepreneurs continue to recognise the importance of placing carers at the heart of what we do. Now, with nearly 50 franchised locations, our team is changing the lives of people across the UK - this award has given proof of concept while equally commending the incredible work that the Visiting Angels community delivers on a daily basis.

“Being given such a prestigious title has only been made possible thanks to the strength and belief of the amazing people that I work with, so this award is shared across the entire Visiting Angels network as we reach new heights and continue reforming the in-home care sector for the better.”

The Managing Director of the Year Award also takes into account the importance of striking a balance between pushing a company forward and keeping team members’ mental wellbeing at the forefront of operations – something Dan has prioritised since launching Visiting Angels. Dan’s flexibility, dedication and commitment to creating a better workplace for all has helped franchisees up and down the country flourish, which has subsequently enabled Visiting Angels’ clients to do the same.

SME News Awards Coordinator, Kaven Cooper, believes Dan’s and Visiting Angel’s approach is something other leaders in the care industry should consider, “Hosting this year’s awards was a fantastic opportunity as I had the pleasure of being enlightened to the incredible work that Dan does as Managing Director of Visiting Angels. The confidence Dan has in his own capabilities and of Visiting Angels’ brand and ethos is certainly not misplaced - you can see the franchise network’s infectious level of satisfaction and happiness everywhere you look. What’s better, this reflects directly onto the delivery of Visiting Angels’ second-to-none quality of care and the communities that franchisees serve – this all starts with Dan. I want to wish him a mighty congratulations for his deserved win of this prestigious award and title as he supports, leads and, of course, brings people together.”

About Visiting Angels

In 2017, the Visiting Angels brand came to the UK under the expert leadership of Dan Archer. A franchise veteran and passionate ambassador for quality care at home, Dan launched the first UK office in October 2017. In less than 12 months, Visiting Angels Sheffield proved to be one of our most successful new franchises. Ever. Dan and his team were awarded ‘Best International Office’ at our 2018 Annual Conference in recognition of their exceptional performance and commitment to the Visiting Angels UK mission. Most care businesses, and in turn, most care franchises, will tell you that they put their clients first. And whilst we don’t disagree with the sentiment, we take a slightly different view on how to achieve it. We believe that to truly be successful in this pursuit, and to change the future of social care in the UK, we must actually put our carers at the heart of the business. For without them, there is no business. We describe this approach as "carer-centric".
