Green and clean at Family Tree Gardens for 2019’s Clean Air Day

Tackling pollution and climate change is a tall order – but one that Essex-based Family Tree Gardens is passionate about.

The family-run expert gardening business, which has grown to six employees since its launch two years ago, has committed to being carbon neutral by the end of June, to coincide with today’s national Clean Air Day.

Clean Air Day is an initiative co-ordinated by Global Action Plan which aims to raise awareness of how to tackle air pollution through a series of nationwide events and free informative resources for participants.

The Family Tree Gardens team – headed up by brothers Tom and James Nolan – are keen to stress the importance of appreciating and nurturing our environment.

Tom Nolan, co-owner of Family Tree Gardens, said: “My brother and I started this business as our love of gardening and nature was installed in us from a young age by our parents – and we want to share that appreciation with everyone else, which is why we’re so keen to mark Clean Air Day.

“We get to see first hand how incredible nature can be every day, and there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing it come to life through our work. But the environmental pressures on the planet, including air pollution, are going to make it impossible for future generations to enjoy those moments like we do.”

This, Nolan adds, is why the business is aiming to become carbon neutral – meaning they will ensure that they remove as much carbon dioxide from the environment as they create – and even generate ‘carbon credits’ to offset other emissions elsewhere.

Nolan adds: “We work on all sorts of jobs – from the beautiful Bishops of Chelmsford estate to gorgeous private gardens – and we are privileged to be able to preserve and nurture beautiful green spaces for everybody to use. Our aim is now to do so in a way which is as environmentally friendly as possible and that includes raising awareness on Clean Air Day!”
