Jollof Mama to provide food at Generation Get Up! event at Somerset House

Family-run west London restaurant Jollof Mama is to provide the catering at Generation Get Up!, which runs in the capital’s Somerset House from June 21-23.

The event is a prestigious new exhibition celebrating the last fifty years of Black creativity, both in the UK and elsewhere. And it has already been described by the Evening Standard as ‘unmissable’.

Based in White City, Jollof Mama focuses on authentic West African flavours and street food and showcases some of the best fare from Nigeria, including classic dishes such as jollof rice. Traditional cuisine and ingredients are given a modern twist.

Suya, a popular West African street food, is barbecued meat seasoned with aromatic suya spice, or Yaji. Meat is marinaded and placed on skewers, and usually served with onions and tomatoes. This dish is a particular Joloff Mama speciality.

The eatery's cuisine will be available at Generation Get Up! while the exhibition is open.

Owner Tieyan Eweka said: “We are particularly pleased to be providing the catering for this show, which is showcasing so much young talent and exploring the Black experience both today and back as far as the post-war period.”

Jollof Mama was set up in response to a gap in the local market for the kind of food it specialises in. It offers bespoke menus and is happy to offer street food and a catering service for a wide range of events across the London area. It is also able to look after particular dietary requirements as necessary.
