London-Based Offline Dating Events Company My Friend Charlie Launches in Bristol
Nominated for Dating Brand of the Year in its inaugural year of 2017, the London-based dating company, brainchild of eponymous entrepreneur Charlie Spokes, encourages singles to “Meet Differently”, by hosting regular curated and original events that invite folks to Eat, Drink, Think or Move. A great social, a chance to learn a new skill or happen on a new idea, where it just so happens the company is single.
My Friend Charlie aims to take the pressure, the tedium, the volume, the screen time and the swiping back out of the dating scene, and put the people and the fun back in. Whilst people sign up online and can manage their account from their phone, the onus is very much on meeting people and having fun in person. A surprisingly modern old-fashioned idea.
London events have included its signature “dangerous date night”, axe-throwing, as well as some more traditional food and booze-based evenings out.
As it approaches its second birthday, My Friend Charlie has just completed a successful round of funding and will be rolling out across four more UK cities in the near future. The first of these is Bristol, and we will be welcoming the first MFC event on Thursday 18th July. Leading the charge in Bristol will be Katy Willings, former Event Manager at Bristol-based purveyors of extraordinary experiences, The Adventurists.
We’ll be kicking off at the city’s premier beer and cheese emporium, Two Belly on Whiteladies Road, for a midsummer evening full of delicious local produce, guided by the owners and experts at Two Belly, Dom and Lara, and hosted by the MFC team.
Numbers are limited to 12 men and 12 women, allowing for plenty of mingling and time for folks to relax and start conversations.
Subscribers can attend as many events as they wish, with two hosted events per month, and a weekly outdoor bootcamp in the offing. Premium subscribers will be able to attend the boot camp for free, and get priority and discounted tickets for the hosted events. Outside of the events, guests can ‘match’ with other guests post event and contact them again if the feeling is mutual via their online account and soon-to-be launched mobile app.
