Andover pet aficionado to run London Marathon in support of Cats Protection

After completing the gruelling 26.2-mile marathon last year, local mum Tracey Dawber is once again preparing to run in this year’s London Marathon – this time in support of Cats Protection.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be lacing up my running shoes to support such a worthy cause,” said Tracey. “If you’re wondering where you can find me, I’ll be running around the local country lanes in Andover – supported by my husband and daughter, who will be cycling and rollerblading alongside me, cheering me on as I gear up for the big day. It’s been tough, but knowing I have my family and the entire pet-loving community behind me makes me focused on pushing closer to my goal and the chance to make a meaningful difference to Cats Protection.”

Cats Protection not only rehomes abandoned cats but also advocates for cats by campaigning for change across the UK. It offers education in the form of free talks, lesson plans, information packs and interactive activities. Recently, it launched a free and confidential fostering service for cats whose families are fleeing domestic abuse so they can rest assured their cat will be taken care of until they can be safely reunited.

As a member of Petpals head office, the UK’s longest-established pet-care service, Tracey is certainly a champion of pet welfare. No stranger to the challenge, she made her London Marathon debut in 2023, raising £2,000 for Dog’s Trust. Now, she aims to replicate her success for Cats Protection this year, already securing over 70% of her fundraising target.

“When I announced I was taking part again this year, everyone thought I was mad!” explained Tracey. “But the tireless commitment to the welfare of our feline friends at Cats Protection resonated with me so much that I knew I had to take part again. They often get overlooked in favour of more socially popular charities, so they especially need our help.

“I’m so grateful for all the support and donations I’ve received so far, and I’m determined to make everyone proud – including our much-loved feline companions!”
