The Man from Del Monte’s Banana Jag Comes to Market

The sad passing of actor Brian Jackson has led to his cherished Banana Jaguar XJ coming to market via the Evoke Classics Online Auction – https://www.evoke-classics.com/auction/1981-jaguar-xj-5-3l-v12-series-3/

Brian enjoyed a varied career on stage and on screen that spanned nearly six decades. Arguably, he will be best known for his non-speaking role in a series of unforgettable TV commercials. Brian played the role of a globetrotting fruit taster searching for only the very best fruits to use in his products.

Once he had uncovered them, “The Man from Del Monte” gave his anxiously waiting audience confirmation that this was the one. With a simple nod, the ecstatic growers would proclaim “The Man from Del Monte, he say yes!”.

Unfortunately, in July, Brian sadly passed away at the age of ninety-one. The Banana Jaguar – as it was affectionately known – was cherished by Brian for thirty seven years and has come to market as his wife Ann can no longer enjoy it.

Sales Director Sarah Crabtree says:

“We have had some famous classics go through our auction in the past but this one resonates as we all grew up with that famous man in the Panama hat saying “yes.” It is just a shame we see it come to market due to these circumstances. What we do want to do is help Ann find a new home for it as it was loved by Brian and would be a shame to see it waste away in the garage.”

Commercial Director Paul Cunningham says:

“We are always sad when a classic comes to us from a deceased estate, but in almost every case the classic has been loved and enjoyed so much that the family always want to see it go to a new home where it can be kept on the road and cherished in the same way. Hopefully, we can make that happen for Ann.”
