Opening Soon: Faces Amongst Spaces by Veronica Wells

Veronica Wells | Faces Amongst Spaces

Thursday 4th – 27th May 2023

Not long now until the launch of ‘Faces Amongst Spaces’, a solo exhibition by the figurative artist Veronica Wells. Gallery director Sarah Wiseman has recently paid Veronica a visit to see what she’s been up to.

‘Veronica’s new studio space is on Portobello Road, London, the corner of a large room in which a friend has carved a space for her. The area is a constant stimulation, with fashion, the market, and music all around as you approach the building. Once inside, between a huge storage of records, second hand furniture and sound equipment, Veronica has found a very happy place to paint.’

‘I feel her work and subject matter has always had an immediate relevance. What’s more, her practice has grown over the years in which the selfie has risen in popularity. This intense pressure to present a level of unrealistic perfection to the world fascinates all of us. We may or may not partake but always are watching.’

Veronica’s forthcoming exhibition 'Faces Amongst Spaces' packs a punch at conditional ideas of beauty, by looking at it sideways, when the cameras not recording, seeing what is happening at the edges.’

We can’t wait to show you more as Veronica prepares for her exhibition. Sarah Wiseman Gallery is preparing a fully illustrated e-catalogue where you can preview all available works. If you’d like to receive one, please send your request to info@wisegal.com

25th Anniversary: Celebrate with us!

'Faces Amongst Spaces' also serves as our anniversary celebration show, and we would be delighted to raise a glass with you at the launch event on Thursday 4th May. Veronica Wells will be in attendance – do join us! To RSVP, please reply to this email.

COMING SOON:

Emily Powell: The Fundamental Importance of Nature

10 JUNE – 1ST JULY 2023

In this exhilarating new solo exhibition, Emily Powell will present a new collection of works inspired by nature and her recent animal narrative work.

Emily says 'Nature is a place to reset. It's the place you're meant to be, it's there for you whatever your emotions. There are so many good shapes and shades to record. It's the sort of good that lights up your whole being and looks after you.'

Emily Powell is one of the UK’s most exciting young artistic talents. Her body of work illustrates nostalgia and freewill. She brightly captures hometown coastal views in Devon, motherhood, still life & nature in her own light – from parrots in the shower, tigers in the sky, seagulls with a political agenda, flamboyant floral arrangements, boats at sea in battleship form. Her imagination is endless, her curiosity infectious, freely exploring paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures, digital art, stop motion animations and more. The lively diversity behind Emily’s work is rightfully admired. Her fluorescent colour palette and fearless technique showcases liberty in the way she creates and exhibits. No surface, medium or space is impractical to her. By removing traditional boundaries in her work, Emily is proving herself to be a breath of fresh air to the art world.
