Yorkshire Women’s Life Magazine Celebrates Windrush 75th Anniversary
National Windrush Day on 22 June 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the passengers of the Empire Windrush from the Caribbean to the UK. Caribbean people from various islands brought their skills and love for what many of them called ‘The Mother Country’, coming to the UK to work and contribute to the British economy.
The Windrush Anniversary is a chance to celebrate the contribution of the Windrush generation and their descendants.
Yorkshire Women’s Life Editor and broadcaster, Dawn-Maria France, said: ‘I’m so proud of our magazine team who have created a wonderful poster to celebrate the Windrush anniversary – which is running in the magazine until the end of the year – to celebrate the Caribbean people’s contribution to this wonderful country of ours.”
It is rare to find a truly independent award-winning news-led women’s publication these days, and finding one that has survived for twenty-three years is even rarer. However, Yorkshire-based Journalist Dawn-Maria France and the award-winning team have done just that.

The magazine has won a number of awards over the years for its frequent and relevant news stories for women. Dawn-Maria has also been nominated for Travel Journalist of the Year – Consumer Writer/Journalists Award for her female friendly travel features as well as being the Winner of the English Women’s Awards for Media and Journalism.
