Top chef delighted to launch new restaurant at one of UK's best-loved racecourses

A TOP chef who will serve Michelin-starred food to racegoers in one of the UK’s most unique restaurants has spoken of his delight at the level of public interest.

Tom Barnes, executive chef at L’Enclume and Rogan and Co at Cartmel in Cumbria, has spent time working with Simon Rogan on a menu for the new venture.

It will see a glass-fronted pavilion and garden terrace opened at Cartmel Racecourse for the duration of the venue’s four-month season, from which fine food and wine will be served.

Tom said: “Simon and I have worked on a very exciting menu which, along with our teams, we will serve to racegoers on each of the nine race days across the Cartmel season.

“There will be a three-course meal, afternoon tea and we will be incorporating seasonal produce grown on Simon’s 12-acre organic farm in the Cartmel valley to keep dishes fresh and food miles down to a minimum.

“The restaurant is right alongside the finishing straight with breathtaking views, so as well as great food, we are expecting plenty of action and excitement.

“I’m delighted to say that tickets have been selling very well with lots of people keen to enjoy this unique experience.”

Rogan at the Races is a unique collaboration between Simon Rogan and Cartmel Racecourse. It is the first year there has been such an offering and brings a unique twist to a day out at one of the UK's best-loved racecourses.

The only other racecourse at which Rogan and his team will cook food this year is Royal Ascot.

Tickets to the exclusive pavilion have been selling fast, with some dates almost fully booked.

A limited number of tickets are left for the May race days being held on Saturday 25th, Bank Holiday Monday the 27th and Cartmel’s only evening racing of the year on Wednesday the 29th.

Tickets are priced from just £159 and include access to the paddock enclosure, a trackside table, wonderful food, racecards and parking.
