Alcohol-Free Lifestyles On The Rise as Official Body Launches For Dry January

British alcohol-free entrepreneur joins U.S. board of New Adult Non-Alcoholic Beverage Association

LONDON - TUESDAY 21 DECEMBER 2021. Dry January is set to make a dramatic impact this year as those wanting to change their drinking habits embrace the growing supply of alcohol-free alternatives to beer, wine and spirits…

So much so that the U.S. has created the Adult Non-Alcoholic Beverage Association (ANBA) to give consumers access to a wide range of quality alcohol-free options and avoid the dangers of alcohol to both physical and mental health. A US/EU chapter of ANBA will launch imminently.

Joining the ANBA US board is British entrepreneur Amanda Thomson, creator of the hit alcohol-free sparkling NOUGHTY. Thomson has been appointed to the newly formed entity in the U.S. and will help lead a sister body being created for the UK and Europe.

The global market for non-alcoholic drinks is expected to grow to $30 billion by 2025, according to Global Market Insights. In the U.S. alone, non-alcoholic spirits soared 113.4% in the last year, when compared to the year before. Non-alcoholic beer drove 31.7% of growth and alcohol-free wines 39.4%, according to NielsenIQ.

“This is a significant step forward for the world of non-alcoholic drinking and I’m excited to be part of leading the charge to make this sector of the drinks industry as vital as any other,” said Amanda Thomson, CEO and Founder of Thomson & Scott. “Health and well-being are more important than ever in the current climate and consumers deserve high-quality alcohol-free wine options to switch out for their alcoholic counterparts. That’s where Noughty comes in.”

Consumers are increasingly interested in mindful drinking as an important part of their lifestyle and this rising tide has non-alcoholic drinks across all sectors rocketing in sales.

Non-alcoholic industry leaders are joining together to foster growth in the dynamic category, which encompasses beer, wine, spirits, and ready-to-drink cocktails, and to ensure an inclusive industry where consumers have access to a wide range of high-quality non-alcoholic drinks at every social occasion.

Thomson herself launched NOUGHTY alcohol-free organic vegan sparkling in the UK in 2019 and already sells to more than 35 countries around the world including the U.S., Canada, Australia and Europe. She recognised that, although the beer and spirits sectors were answering the call to offer top quality alcohol-free alternatives, the wine industry was not, so Noughty was born.

While adult non-alcoholic beverages are growing exponentially, there was, until now, no single unifying voice for the industry.

Other challenges faced by brands in this space include the absence of:

• Universal regulations

• Industry standards

• Guidelines for international trade and market expansion

• A central entity driving the education of all stakeholders - consumers, retailers, suppliers, and complementary industries.

ANBA will work to foster community and develop an education platform that engages drinkers, trade allies, the media, and government stakeholders around a category that is shifting paradigms and fundamentally changing the way people drink in the U.S., the UK and around the world.

"The Adult Non-Alcoholic Beverage Association seeks to promote, protect, and grow the non-alcoholic beverage industry by providing a central voice that serves our members as well as raises awareness of the overall industry," said ANBA CEO Marcos Salazar. "We’re delighted to have Amanda join us at this exciting time for adult non-alcoholic beverage manufacturers, and we are ready to provide support and fuel further consumer growth across the globe."

ANBA will accomplish its aims through:

• Educating and engaging all stakeholders to accelerate industry growth;

• Creating industry and regulation compliance standards for the industry;

• Developing advocacy, policy, and government affairs strategies that protect and support its members;

• Providing the latest industry insights and trends;

• Leveraging collective buying power for member discounts on business tools and services;

• Providing professional development, networking, and business support to members.

ANBA is formed by entrepreneurs and more than forty of the industry’s leading brands in different segments of adult non-alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, spirits, ready-to-drink cocktails, mixers, and more. This is a group of innovators and forward thinkers propelling the category to expand and change the way the world drinks.

Founding brands of ANBA in the U.S. include Acid League, All The Bitter, AL’s, Amethyst Spirits, Athletic Brewing Co., Atmos Brewing Co., Barrel Brothers Brewing, Best Day Brewing, Betera, The Bitter Housewife, Buonafide 0.0, CERIA Brewing Co., Discoe Beverages, DistillX Beverages Inc., DRY Botanical Bubbly, Ferm Fatale, For Bitter For Worse, The Free Spirits Company, GO Brewing, Grüvi, H2OPS Sparkling Hop Water, Hairless Dog Brewing Company, Hella Cocktail Co., Isn’t Drinks, KUL MOCKS, Leader Brewing, Libra, Lyre’s, Mingle Beverage Company, Mocktail Club, Mocktails, One For The Road Brewing, Partake Brewing, Rally Brewing Company, Rightside Brewing, Ritual Zero Proof, Rock Grace, Seir Hill, SipC, Spiritless, Spirity Cocktails, Starla Wines, Teetotaler Wines, Thomson & Scott Noughty, Top Note Tonic, Töst, WellBeing Brewing Co., Wilderton Botanical Distillate, Woodnose, with more brands joining every day.
